Family Saturday EXTRA! is an enhanced version of our regular Family Saturdays, offering all the usual hands‑on family activities alongside special themed experiences that make the day even more memorable.
For this Family Saturday EXTRA!, step back to 1665 and discover how people celebrated through Country Beats and Dancing Feet, with a full day of music, dancing, creativity and play inspired by May Day traditions.
What Happens on the Day?
Alongside everything families enjoy on a regular Family Saturday, this EXTRA! event features additional, themed activities throughout the museum.
Highlights include:
- Live music and dancing with The Grantham Danserye, bringing the Stuart period to life
- Opportunities to learn authentic 17th‑century dance steps in a fun, family‑friendly way
- Seasonal creative activities, including making a maypole‑inspired twirling stick
- A range of May Day‑themed crafts to enjoy across the day
These activities run alongside the much‑loved Family Saturday favourites in our galleries, giving families plenty of choice throughout the visit.

Families are welcome to explore the museum’s interactive galleries, play together, create throughout the day and enjoy refreshments or lunch in Café Nineteen20. This event is part of our wider Family Saturdays programme, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month.
