As well as all the usual family fun taking place on Family Saturdays, this is a FAMILY SATURDAY EXTRA: 400 Years On… Cardboard Coronation: Craft, Dress, Fire!
Step into history and take the throne! Create recycled royal regalia, learn musket drill, tour regal treasures, follow our princely puppies and meet artist Robbie Bellekom for puppet‑theatre fun. Long live play!
Cardboard Coronation marks 400 years since Charles I’s coronation, and you’re invited to rule the day. In the Tudor Hall, drop in anytime to create your own crown and royal regalia from recycled and scrap materials. Dress up as King or Queen, then strike a coronation selfie on our throne.
Drums will beat for live musket demonstrations at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm, where you’ll learn how soldiers reloaded and fired (safely, of course!). Join family‑friendly gallery tours to get up close to royal objects at 11am, 12noon and 2pm.
Prefer to wander? Pick up the princely puppies trail and sniff out fascinating stories of a war between a King and his country. Dive into gallery discovery bags and interactive creative activities designed to help you relax, play and learn.
Plus, meet Robbie Bellekom, our Open Door Artist in Residence, and build your own historical puppet theatre—ready for a performance fit for a King.
Come make history—one cardboard crown at a time!
