Evening Talk: How to be a Doctor in AD 1000

Saturday 6 February | 4.30pm–6pm

What did medicine really look like a thousand years ago?

Join Dr Christina Lee from the University of Nottingham for a fascinating journey into the world of early medieval healthcare, where cutting-edge research is revealing a far more sophisticated medical culture than popular stereotypes might suggest.

Discover the remedies, treatments and surgical techniques available around the first millennium, and explore how people understood illness, injury and wellbeing long before the development of modern medicine. Were there different treatments for the rich and poor? Did men, women and children receive different care? And how effective were these early approaches to healing?

This thought-provoking talk uncovers the latest research into medieval medicine, challenging misconceptions and offering a fresh perspective on the knowledge and practices of the past.
