From Norman stronghold to Victorian pleasure garden, and from royal residence to one of Newark's most treasured landmarks, Newark Castle has witnessed centuries of history.

Join members of the Newark Castle Research Group for a fascinating journey through the castle's remarkable story. Carefully researched and written by volunteers from the Newark Castle Gatehouse Project, this talk explores the people, events and changes that have shaped the castle over the centuries.

Discover the castle's origins under Alexander the Magnificent, learn about its connection to the final days of King John, and uncover the important role it played during the British Civil Wars. The story continues into the Victorian era, when the castle grounds were transformed into a popular pleasure garden, before looking ahead to the exciting plans that will help secure the castle's future for generations to come.
