About the Exhibition

From Poland: Spirit and Strength is a community‑led exhibition that brings together stories, objects and experiences to explore the culture, creativity and history of Poland. Created in collaboration with Brew Projects, Open Doors, and local people with Polish heritage, the exhibition reflects the deep and lasting connections between Poland and Newark and Sherwood.

The exhibition brings past and present into conversation, sharing moments from history alongside reflections on contemporary life today.

What Will You See?

The exhibition features a rich mix of material that reveals different aspects of Polish life, identity and tradition, including:

  • Personal items loaned by members of the local Polish community
  • Selected objects from the National Civil War Centre – Newark Museum collections
  • Displays exploring everyday life, innovation and remarkable individuals
  • Traditional crafts and creative practices, alongside cultural entertainment

Together, these elements offer new perspectives on Polish culture, from the familiar to the unexpected.

Stories, Traditions and Community

At the heart of From Poland: Spirit and Strength are the voices and experiences of people with Polish heritage living in the area today. The exhibition reflects how traditions are passed down, adapted and kept alive, while also acknowledging the role Polish communities continue to play in shaping life in Newark and Sherwood.

By placing personal stories alongside museum collections, the exhibition creates space for connection, reflection and shared understanding.
